Κοντάκιον - Kontakion - In Greek/English

Επί τού όρους μετεμορφώθης,

(Epi tou orous metemorfothis)

You were transfigured upon the mount

καί ως εχώρουν οι Μαθηταί σου 

(kai os ekhoroun ei Mathitai sou)

and Your disciples, in so far as they could bear,

τήν δόξαν σου, Χριστέ ο Θεός εθεάσαντο,

(tin doxan sou, Khriste o Theos etheasanto)

beheld Your glory, O Christ our God,

ίνα όταν σε ίδωσι σταυρούμενον,

(ina otan se idosi stavroumenon)

Thus, when they see You crucified, 

τό μέν πάθος νοήσωσιν εκούσιον,

(to men pathos nisosin ekousion)

they may understand Your voluntary passion, 

τώ δέ κόσμω κηρύξωσιν, 

(to de kosmo kirixosin)

and proclaim to the world

ότι σύ υπάρχεις αληθώς, τού Πατρός τό απαύγασμα.

(oti si iparkheis alithos, tou Patros to apavgasma)

that You are truly the effulgence of the Father.
